John Shafter Cole Iii

John Shafter Cole, III, 40, of Statesville, went home to be with the Lord on July 26, 2018 after several years of declining health. John was known for his unwavering love for his family and friends, as well as his charismatic personality.



He is survived by his devoted wife, Heather Flouton Cole and his two beloved children



John S. Cole, IV and Emily Cole of the home. He is further survived by his siblings,



Dewey Cole, Carol Cole Kramer, Lisa Jo Everett, and his deeply loved cousin, James David Stakley, who was more like a brother to him.



Further survivors include in laws, Leonard and Melody Flouton, who took John into their home at the age of 16; Dolores Phillips and brother in law, Matthew Flouton (Stacey). In addition, a host of nieces and nephews, including Jordan and Travis Flouton who held a special place in his heart and loved him very much.



He was preceded in death by his father, John S. Cole II with whom he shared a strong bond, and his paternal grandparents John S. Cole I and Almeda Cole.



Affectionately known as "Big John," he was born on December 9, 1977 during a blizzard at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. He moved to North Carolina at the age of eight, to live with his father. He attended NIHS and attained his GED from Mitchell Community College and mastered the trade of TIG welding.



He married the love of his life in March 1997 and began a family. He was a people pleaser, a protector and a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved to cook which was a passion he shared with his dad. He was loved immensely and will be greatly missed.



A Memorial service will be held 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Olin Methodist Church in Olin, NC with Rev. Garry Revels officiating. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm.
