John Brockington Whiting

Mr. John Brockington Whiting, 85, of Statesville, passed away, Saturday, January 30, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Whiting was born May 31, 1930 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Robert I. and Florence Armfield Whiting. He was a graduate of Barium Springs School and was a decorated veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked and retired from J.C. Penney Distribution Center in Statesville after 44 years. He is survived by three daughters, Janet W. White of Mooresville, Jacqueline W. Emery (Tim White) of Landis, Barbara Hedrick of Statesville, three grandchildren, Jennifer White of Mooresville, Brandon White of Huntersville, Thomas Emery of Raleigh and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Russell Dean Whiting, a wife, Hilda B. Whiting and several brothers and a sister. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2016 at Oakwood Cemetery with full military rites. The family will receive friends on Friday 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Barium Springs Home for Children, PO Box 1, Barium Springs, NC 28010.
