Joe Allen Nash, 82, of Statesville, passed away Wednesday, October 01, 2014 at the Gordon Hospice House. He was born in Iredell County on December 29, 1931 to the late Herman B. Nash and Catherine Harwell Nash. Mr. Nash was a graduate of Celeste Henkel School and on October 15, 1983, he married Jean Smith Nash, who survives. He was a retired heavy equipment mechanic with Road Machinery Services and was a member of Bethlehem UMC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Shelby N. Hoover and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Nash. Mr. Nash is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jean Nash of the home, one son, Kirby Joe Nash of Statesville and daughter, Janet N. Russell of Randleman, NC. He is also survived by three step daughters, Gail C. Grant (Jerry) and Sissy C. Thomas (Barry), both of Statesville and Pam Carrigan of Greensboro along with three grandsons, Chesley Nash (Katie) of Statesville, Jamie Russell and Brandon Newman. Four step grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Nash will be held 11:00 am Friday, October 3, 2014, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Rev. Cokie Bristol and Rev. Olin Isenhour officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 9:45 until 10:45 am at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Gordon Hospice House, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625, or to Bethlehem UMC, 607 Bethlehem Rd, Statesville, NC 28677.
