Joe Edward Sloan

Joe Edward Sloan, 82, of Olin died Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at his home.

He was born in Iredell County on January 19, 1940, to the late Offie Coite Sloan and Margaret Walters Sloan. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Coite Lawrence Sloan.

Joe was a 1957 graduate of Union Grove High School and was a member of Berean Baptist Church in Hamptonville. He was a cabinet builder and had started his own business in 1972. Joe loved John Deere tractors and had quite a collection of them. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, telling jokes, singing, and putting puzzles together.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Jean Tayes Sloan, a son, Eddie Sloan (Denise), a daughter, Brenda Wallace, two grandchildren, Wesley Sloan (Abigail), Karen Sloan, a great-granddaughter, Charlie Jo Sloan, a brother, Howard Sloan (Christine) and two sisters, Elizabeth Foster, Lucille Shaver and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. David Pattisall and Rev. David Childress officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 at Nicholson Funeral Home.
