Joe Aaron Compton

March 6, 1939 — May 5, 2018

Joe Aaron Compton, 79, of Union Grove, passed away, Saturday, May 05, 2018 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 6, 1939 in Iredell County to the late Robert and Hortense Christie Compton.



Joe attended Iredell County Schools and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He was married to Martha Moore Compton on August 28, 1964. They shared over 53 years of marriage before her passing on March 20, 2018. Joe was retired from Hexcel Schwabel Corporation after serving over 35 years of service. He was a member of North Iredell Baptist Church but attended Grassy Knob Baptist Church.



Along with his wife, Martha, and his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Melvin Compton and a sister Barbara Ingram.



Left to cherish his memory are a son, Mark Compton (Tonya) of Statesville; a daughter, Angela C. Lewis (Travis) of Union Grove; three grandchildren, Haley Compton, Zachary Compton, Tressa Lewis; one brother, Bryant Compton (Irene); two sisters, Louise Johnson and Betty Menscer; sister-in-law, Patty Compton; and many nieces and nephews.



Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Grassy Knob Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Chenevey officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 113 will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 until 11:00 am at the church and at other times assemble at the home of Mark and Tonya Compton.



The family would like to thank Dr. Naim Bouhussein along with his staff and Iredell Memorial Hospital ER staff for the care they provided Joe.
