Joan Emma Murrell Goss, 80, of Statesville and formerly of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at her home. Mrs. Goss was born in Conway, SC on July 7, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Archibald Clarence Murrell and Ruby Shannon Jenerette. She was a graduate of Conway High School and received her AAS Secretarial Science from Horry-Georgetown Tech. She was employed with United Merchants where she worked as a secretary and she was of the Baptist faith. On August 3, 1979 she married Frederick J. Goss, who preceded her in death on October 23, 2000. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and she loved her family dearly. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, playing the guitar, and was an exceptional artist. Along with her parents and her husband, Mrs. Goss was preceded in death by one sister, Mitzi Bryant and one brother, Manley Murrell. She was also preceded in death by two step-sons, Robby Goss and Fred Goss, Jr. Left to cherish her memory is one daughter, Susan Hall (James) of Statesville, and three sons, Tony Mitchell (Mitzi) of Statesville, Tim Mitchell (Kim) of Fort Bragg, and Mike Mitchell (Linda) of Wilmington, NC. She is also survived by two sisters, Irene M. Nichols of Awendaw, SC and Lundeen M. Thompson of Little Rock, AR; one step son, Jimmy Goss, two step daughters, Susan Guy (Frank) and Merylee Goss, six grandsons, Ryley, Haden, Adam, and Christopher Mitchell, Sam Hall, and Michael McNeely along with three granddaughters, Meagan Beeson, Emma Mitchell and Jennifer M. Foust (William). Two step granddaughters, Wendy Miller (Michael) and Amanda Caudill (Greg) along with two step grandsons, John Troutman and Blake Goss, also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Goss will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, February 8, 2014, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Lay Leader Kelly Hobbs
