Jimmy Lyerly Campbell

Jimmy “Jim” Lyerly Campbell, 85, of Cleveland, died Sunday, July 21,2024 at his home following a lengthy illness. 

 Born in Rowan County on May 5, 1939, he was a son of the late Clyde Hope Campbell and Helen Lyerly Campbell. He was also preceded in death by a son, Dean Edward Campbell and sisters, Bonnie Collins and Evelyn Morgan and a grandchild, Elizabeth Campbell.

 He was a conductor and brakeman in the railroad industry for 33 years. He enjoyed farming, mostly beef cattle and gardening. He was a 1957 graduate of Cleveland High School where he played basketball and was voted the best dressed in his class.

 Survivors include a son, Mark Campbell, a sister, Dorothy Hoague, and a brother-in-law, Warren Morgan. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Madison Queen (Jacob) and Taylor Campbell and three great grandchildren, Aubrey, Dawson and Warren Campbell.

 Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 Friday at Old Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Pastor Keith Mason officiating.
