Jim Loyd

James (Jim) Norris Loyd, Sr., 83, is home with his Lord and Savior. He passed away peacefully at Iredell Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 4, 2014. Jim was born February 4, 1930, in Iredell County to the late Rev. Rufus Columbus Loyd and Cordia Sprinkle Loyd. He attended Central School and worked for the Statesville Fire Department and later for McLean Trucking Company where he drove for over seven million miles. He served his country loyally in "C" Company 378 Engineering Combat Division of the National Guard during the Korean War. He faithfully served as a deacon and a member of the building and grounds committee at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Jim was also preceded in death by his brothers, R.C. Loyd, Grady S. Loyd, John R. Loyd, and Thomas A. Loyd; his sister, Laura Nell Myers; brother-in-law Billy Mayberry; and sisters-in-law Dorothy Fox, Georgia Loyd, and Betty Stroud. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, whom he married September 5, 1952, Faye Wooten Loyd, of the home; daughters, Deborah Fox (Nelson) of Statesville and Robin Davis (Brian) of Wilkesboro; sons, James Loyd, Jr (Susan) of Monroe and Thomas Loyd (Jennifer) of Statesville; grandchildren Nicole Davis of Wilkesboro, Jeremy Fox (Jessica), Casey Laws (Caleb), Daniel and William Loyd of Statesville, James, Kathryn, Jacob, and Emily Loyd of Monroe; great-grandchildren Whitney and Wyatt Fox of Statesville; sisters, Iris Mayberry of Union Grove, Martha Kirkman (Charles) of Pleasant Garden, Cordia "Cookie" Wilson (Jim) of Statesville, and Pat Parks (David) of Banner Elk; brothers, Max Loyd (Aileen) of Clemson, SC and A.K. Loyd (Pat) of Statesville; sisters-in-law Sarah Lea Loyd of Statesville, Barbara Loyd of Salisbury; brothers-in-law Gilbert Stroud of Statesville, Sammy Myers of Winston-Salem and many very special nieces, nephews, and cousins along with his four legged companion, Izzy. Services celebrating Jim's life will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 848 Pisgah Church Road, Stony Point, NC with Rev. Mark Robinette officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers are Jeremy Fox, Caleb Laws, James Loyd, Jacob Loyd, Bryce Prevette, and John Stroud. Honorary pallbearers are Daniel and William Loyd. Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.
