Jim Foster

James "Jim" Bowie Foster, Jr. , age 86, died March 6, 2011 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House. Born in Statesville, NC , Jim was the son of James and Harriet Foster. A native of Statesville, NC, he resided in Greensboro for 46 years before moving to Aldersgate Retirement Community in Charlotte last year. Jim was a veteran of WWI, serving in the US Navy for 3 years. He went on to graduate from NC State University. He worked for Ciba Geigy Chemicals for 37 years before his retirement. Jim was an avid golfer and loved his NC State Wolfpack sports teams. One of his greatest joys was having his entire family home at the holidays. He was much loved and will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Foster; daughters, Margaret McAlister of Davidson, NC and Harriet Miller and her husband , Rodney of Lookout Mountain, GA; grandchildren, Mary McAlister; and Joshua, Chad, Patsy, Anna and Meg Miller. In addition, he is survived by his Elbert Gilbreath, nieces Emily Hinson, Sara Ann Wampole, and nephew John Patterson. A memorial service will be at Broad Street Methodist Church in Statesville on Saturday, March 12th at 11:00AM. The family will receive friends after the memorial service in the Memorial Hall in the church. A private burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery.
