Jessie Neil Sowers Crosswhite

Mrs. Jessie Neil Sowers Crosswhite, 80, of Statesville, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Iredell County on August 9, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Neil Sharpe Sowers and Jessie Swanson Sowers. Jessie was a member of Western Ave. Baptist Church. She served as an Iredell County Commissioner from 1984 until 1990 and was also a former Register Of Deeds. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Statesville High School in 1952 and also graduated from the Womens College At Greensboro. During her career, she worked as a bank teller and as secretary at her husband's law firm. She enjoyed her mountain home in Blowing Rock, her animals and politics. She married Mr. William E. (Bill) Crosswhite on June 2, 1956 and he preceded her in death on February 11, 2014. Survivors include sons Joe Crosswhite and his wife, Desiree and Bob Crosswhite and his wife, Heather and a daughter, Becky C. Ford and her husband, Billy all of Statesville. Also surviving is a brother, Sidney Sowers of Statesville, 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Services celebrating Jessie's life will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday at Western Ave. Baptist Church with Dr. James D. Cartin officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Private burial will precede the service in Oakwood Cemetery.
