J.C. Morrow

October 18, 1925 — October 2, 2016

J.C. Morrow, 90, of Statesville, passed away at Brookdale Peachtree on Sunday, October 2, 2016. He was born on October 18, 1925 to the late Hoyle and Nona Benfield Morrow. Mr. Morrow was a graduate of Celeste Henkle High School and was married to Sue Mayberry Morrow who passed away on June 15, 1998. He served his country honorably during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was retired from J.C. Penny Company in 1990 after having started his career with them in 1947. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as Operations Manager for the Company. Mr. Morrow was an original member of the West Iredell Fire Department and was very active in his church, Beulah Baptist Church which he joined on October 6, 1957. He served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, R.A. Leader, member of the Church Brotherhood and as an usher. He was an Atlanta Braves baseball and Tarheel basketball fan who thought the world of Dean Smith. He loved to garden, the annual beach trips with his family, and had a passion for helping people. Along with his parents and wife, Sue, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Max and Carroll Morrow. Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Ted Morrow (Ellen) of Charlotte and Craig Morrow (Jill) of Statesville; two granddaughters, Hannah M. Parsons (Adam) of Statesville and Auburn Morrow of Charlotte; two grandsons, Matthew Morrow (Lacie) of Black Mountain and Joel Morrow (Ally) of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Lois Feimster of Scotts, NC and Katherine Templeton of Statesville and a sister-in-law, Willa Dean Morrow of Statesville. He is further survived by a special friend, Mildred Elliott. Funeral services for Mr. Morrow will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Garrett and Rev. Henry Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:45 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church Building Fund, 1851 Old Mountain Road, Statesville, NC 28677 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
