Janet Sue Wooten

July 1, 1940 — March 14, 2018

Janet Sue Isenhower Wooten, 77, of Statesville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 while at home in Statesville. She was born on July 1, 1940 in Catawba, N.C. to Forrest Carpenter Isenhower and Ila Leatherman Isenhower who both preceeded her in death. On September 16, 1989, she married Cletis Dean Wooten, Sr., who survives to cherish their 29 years of memories.



Others left to be blessed with their own memories are her step daughter, Cyndee Buchanan, a step son, Dean Wooten and his wife, Jade along with grandchildren: Brock Buchanan and wife, Anna, Blair Buchanan, Brandon Wooten and Breanna Wooten in addition to great grandchildren: Ella Grace and Olivia Buchanan. Also surviving are three nieces, Gretchen Moehlmann and her husband, Jonathan, Laura Hawsey and her husband, Bob, Amy Rush and her husband, Mark and two nephews, Nathan Moehlmann and Buford Cabaniss and his wife, Shannon. In addition, Janet left two sisters with wonderful memories of their own to cherish, Martha I. Alley and her husband Ray of Greensboro and Mary I. Kemp and her husband, Bill of Gastonia.



Janet had many accomplishments. She graduated from Newton High School, received her Batchelors Degree from Lenoir-Rhyne College and her Master's Degree from the University of Virginia. She taught school for many years, mostly for Catawba County Schools. She retired in 1994 after 33 years of teaching. She then became an insurance agent joining her husband in their family business until 2011 when they retired. Janet, until she became sick, was very active in her church, St. John's Lutheran Church in Statesville, where she was a Sunday school teacher, member of WINGS and an active choir member.



She was active in the community over the years volunteering in many things such as Meals On Wheels, D.A.R. and Rotary Inner Wheel. She enjoyed traveling, having visited all 50 states and many other countries with her husband.



Services celebrating Janet's life will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at St. John's Lutheran Church 740 N. Center St. in Statesville, with Rev. Pastor Ernie Sheldon officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. in the church parlor. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.
