James Leon Bennett

James Leon Bennett, 75, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Iredell County on October 9, 1943 to the late Meaver Andrew Bennett and Neva Leola Keever Bennett.



James was a graduate of Statesville Senior High School and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He married Linda Darlene Cronan Bennett on December 16, 1963 and they shared almost 55 years of marriage before his passing. He was retired from Harris Teeter after 32 years of service as the meat manager. James was a volunteer with the Monticello Fire Department and was a member of the Brushy Mountain Beagle Club. He raised beagle dogs and loved to run them in competition. James enjoyed woodworking and gardening. James was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and attended church regularly while his health allowed. He loved the Lord and spending time with children and grandchildren. He also served in the U.S. Army.



Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Craig, J.C., Harold, Paul, and Richard Bennett; and two sisters, Kathleen Moose and Sue Shoemaker.



Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda; two sons, Robert Bennett (Ginger) and Andy Bennett (Rhonda); a daughter, Laura B. Holbrook (Mack); three grandsons, David Bennett (Alicia), Isaac Bennett, and Samuel Holbrook; two granddaughters, Jessica Stebritz (Andy) and Madison Bennett; great grandson, Seth Bennett; and great granddaughter, Lilyana Bennett, all of Statesville. He is further survived by three sisters, Lucille Brim of Statesville, Doris Moose of Statesville, and Virginia Reynolds of Mocksville; and a host of nieces and nephews.



Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Nicholson Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Mitchell and Dr. J.B. Parker, Jr. officiating. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Military Rites presented by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail.
