James Herman Evans

September 10, 1932 — July 11, 2018

Mr. James Herman Evans, 85, of Statesville, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Iredell County on September 10, 1932, he was a son of the late William Alfred Evans and Mamie Safriet Evans. On November 5, 1955, he married the former Barbara Harris who survives.



He was a retired Machine Shop Foreman for Kewaunee Scientific Corp. and a member of Society Baptist Church where he participated in the Baptist Men and was formerly on the Cemetery Committee. He enjoyed umpiring softball, his beagles, fishing and working in the yard and he was an avid deer hunter. He served his country in the U. S. Army.



He was preceded in death by two sons, Tracy and Tony Evans, and a son-in-law, Michael E. Mitchell, in addition to his parents.



In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Gail Evans Mitchell of Hamptonville, two sisters, Ruth Fox of Statesville and Helen Murdock of Troutman along with a daughter-in-law, Lynn Evans of Rock Hill, S.C. Also surviving are two grandsons, Matthew (Lindsay) and Brandon Mitchell and two great grandchildren, Seth and Kaylee Mitchell.



The family expresses special thanks to the staff of the Gordon Hospice House, Rolling Thunder N C 2 and very special friends, Sonny and Rhonda Deal.



Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Society Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Holbrook and Rev. Jeff Holder officiating. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at the church and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Full military rites will be presented by the North Iredell American Legion Post # 113 Burial Detail.
