James William Hastings of Statesville, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at the Gordon Hospice House.
He was born in Iredell County on July 27, 1948, to the late Charlie Hastings and Gladys Morrow Hastings. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dwight Hastings, and Ray Hastings.
James had worked for 3A Composites and Scioto. He was a member of Missionary Methodist Church where he served on the Steward Board. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends, and cooking, especially chicken and dumplings. His greatest joy was found in spending time with his grandchildren and going to the races with his son.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Gwen Calloway Hastings, sons, Michael William Hastings (Sherly), James McCoy Hastings, stepsons, Ronnie Hastings (Maryanne), Johnny Hastings (Cassandra), daughter, Susie Lewis (Brian), stepdaughter, Denise Billings (Bryan), sisters, Anne Parker, Evelyn Scroggs, brothers, John Hastings (Barbara), David Hastings, 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and special friends Andy Cook and Charles Murdock.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 17, 2023, at Missionary Methodist Church at 11:00 am with Randal Macon and David Miller officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service.
