James Benjamin Holcombe, Sr

August 14, 1927 — February 7, 2018

Mr. James "Jim" Benjamin Holcombe, Sr., 90, of Statesville, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Holcombe was born in Iredell County on August 14, 1927 and was the son of the late Samuel Franklin Holcombe and Clyde Moore Holcombe.



He was a graduate of Statesville High School and attended Mitchell Community College. Mr. Holcombe served his country in the U.S. Navy.



On February 11, 1950, he married Clydia Cain Holcombe, and together they shared 53 years of marriage until her death on November 23, 2003.



Mr. Holcombe was the regional general manager for Holiday Inn and was a member of the Statesville Exchange Club.



Mr. Holcombe was devoted to his family. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren but no love matched the love of his dear wife Clydia. He missed her so much after her passing. They are now together again.



In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, William, Norris, Frank, Sam, and Clyde Holcombe and one sister, Mary Holcombe Absher.



Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jane Clendenin (Michael) and Jimmy Holcombe, Jr. (Piper), both of Statesville along with four grandchildren, Meredith Helton (Jason) of Stony Point, Ben Holcombe, III of Statesville, Katie Holcombe of Mooresville and Matthew Clendenin (Kim) of Statesville.



A memorial service honoring the life of Jim Holcombe will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 11, 2018, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Jack Causey officiating. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the service. A private family burial will follow at a later date.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
