Jack Edward Watt, 62, of Harmony died in the VA Hospital in Durham on Monday, July 18,2011 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Born October 13, 1948 he was the son of the late Paul H. Watt and Hilda Jenkins Watt, who survives. On November 1, 1994 he was married to Donna Burke Watt who survives. In addition he is survived by one daughter, Kristi Watt Blackburn (Michael); one son, Travis Jack Watt; grandsons, Hudson and Henry Blackburn; one brother, Jimmy Watt (Brenda); one sister Sharon Rhyne; 4 nieces April Hartz (Jeff), Traci Crabtree (Reagan), Erin Hall (Kyle), Michelle Davidson (Eric) and 1 nephew Jamey Watt (Patti) along with 10 great nieces and nephews ; lifetime friend C.W. "Uncle Bun" Massey and special buddy "B" Ladd. One of his greatest honors was serving in the US Army during the Vietnam War. His lifelong love of truck driving began while riding in the passenger seat of his father's milk truck which led to his becoming owner/operator of J.W. Transport. His most enjoyable moments in life were spent being "Pappy" to his grandsons, and hosting events which allowed the gathering of friends, family and neighbors he held so dear. He was a caring and devoted son, father, and husband and will best be remembered by all who knew him as "Smilin' Jack". Pallbearers will be David Campbell, Jeff Anderson, Jerry Shoemaker, Mickey Jordan, Carmon McMahon, , Jeff Watt, Kenny Watt, and Charles Beckham. Honorary pallbearers include Harry Watt, Charlie Watt, Arnold Watt, Tommy Watt, Kenneth Jordan, Mickey Windsor, Joel Shives, and David Edwards. Celebration of life service will be held on Friday, July 22 at 3:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Duncan and Rev. Rob Blackburn officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 21 from 6:30-8:00p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. (Please join us for a potluck-style hootenanny honoring Jack which be held at his home following Friday's service) In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, N.C. 28625.
