Jack Steve Payne

Jack S. Payne, 83, of Statesville, went to dwell with Jesus on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, the Gordon Hospice House. Jack was born in Alexander County on January 22, 1934 and was the son of the late Rev. Clyde Payne and Jennie Payne. He was married to Brenda Payne who passed away on April 29, 2005. Before retiring, Jack was employed with Klear Knit, Inc in Clover, SC as a cutting room manager. He had 46 years in the garment business. Jack served in the Armed Forces in Germany and France installing telephone lines. In earlier years, Jack pastored church in the Church of the Living God based in Winston-Salem and most recent, he volunteered with Hospice of Iredell County. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Thurston, Johnny, and Bennie Payne and three sisters, Christine Chambers, Rachel Deal and Lorene Prestwood. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Don Lambert and his wife Regina of Statesville along with their children, Tyler Lambert (Holly) of Statesville and Chad McCoy (Kerry) of Mooresville. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Janet Watson (Will) of Marietta, GA and Robin Lopez of Franklinton, NC and a step-son Andrew Grogan (Peggy) of Troutman. Four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. A service to celebrate his home going will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 26, 2017, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Mason and Rev. Bill Murphy officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 113 of Harmony will follow in the New Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. He will be laid to rest beside his wife Brenda. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to funeral service. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family.
