Jack Elledge

Mr. Jack Buel Elledge, 83, of Statesville, left his earthly home for his heavenly home on October14, 2013. Mr. Elledge was born August 13, 1928 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Bud Avery (B.A.) Elledge and Pearl Taylor Elledge. He was a graduate of Harmony High School, class of 1945, and on June 30, 1946, he married his beloved classmate, Emma Lea Tharpe, who passed away on May 9, 2013. He was a member of Peoples Church (formerly Cochran Street Baptist) and worked at maintaining the school buses of the Iredell-Statesville School System for 36 years. He was an avid sports fan. The Atlanta Braves was his baseball team and he was an ardent Duke Blue Devils basketball enthusiast. Jack B., as he was called by many of his friends, is survived by two sons, Jack Lee Elledge (LaRonda Fox Feimster, Fiancee) of Lake Norman and Dennis Tharpe Elledge (Laura) of Columbia, SC; one granddaughter, Jaclyn Elledge Slagle (Wesley) of Atlanta, GA; one grandson, Bryan Dennis Elledge (Betsy) of Columbia, SC; four great grandchildren, Tucker and Henry Slagle and Kaylee and Peyton Elledge; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Tharpe Anderson and Dottie Barham Tharpe, and two special ladies in his life, Jean Tucker Elledge and Kay Richardson Elledge, the mothers of his beloved grandchildren. In addition to his wife of nearly 67 years, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ira Elledge and two sisters, Stella Davis and Estelle Lundy. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to all family and friends who visited during his illness. Sincere gratitude is conveyed to Autumn Care RN's, CNA's, and staff for their attentive care and friendship. You certainly made days much better with your compassion. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Holly Springs Baptist Church with the Reverends Cliff Gwaltney, Ervel Jones, Roscoe Lilly and Dr. Jack Causey officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Tharpe Family plot in the church cemetery. Formal visitation will be immediately after the burial service in the church fellowship hall. Friends unable to attend the funeral may visit at his residence on Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Active pallbearers will be Michael Anderson, Jim Collins, David Elledge, Clarence Hart, Donald Haynes, Walt Johnson, Don Lail and Donald Lundy. Memorials may be made to Holly Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 105 Mayberry Road, Harmony, NC 28634; Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
