Imogene Barker

Imogene Williams Barker, 88, of Union Grove, NC, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017, at the Gordon Hospice House. Mrs. Barker was born in Iredell County on November 6, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Clyde Williams and Florence Reid Williams. She was a graduate of Union Grove High School and attended Mitchell Community College. She was a devout mother and homemaker. She was married to Thomas E. Barker, Sr. who preceded her in death on March 18, 2003 and was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Williams. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Rikki Shoemaker (David) of Statesville, two sons, Tommy Barker (Carol) of Statesville and Terry Barker (Jackie) of Union Grove. She is also survived by one sister, Della Ann White (Jim) of Union Grove along with two grandchildren, Lindsey Barker of Raleigh and Grayson Barker of Statesville. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Imogene Barker will be conducted at 11:00 am Monday, May 29, 2017, at New Prospect Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Ray Williams, Pastor Joey Campbell and Pastor Josh Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends this evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
