Hubert Delmar "Hub" Morrow, 86, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Autumn Care of Statesville. He was born on March 6, 1928 in Statesville to the late Hugh Ray Morrow and Mary Irene Benfield Morrow. He is predeceased by his sisters, Helen Morrow Fraver and Joyce Morrow Hall. Hub is survived by his sister, Phyllis Morrow McKinnell and husband Bill of Huntersville, N.C. He is also survived by his stepson, James Patrick "Pat" Pinson, step-daughter Linsey Jennifer Pinson and numerous nieces and nephews. Hub attended Statesville City Schools graduating from Statesville High School in 1946. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. Upon discharge from the service he continued his education at Appalachian State Teachers College (ASU) in Boone, N.C. receiving his teaching degree in 1951. For the next 10 years he taught at Celeste Henkle in Iredell County, Elkin High School in Elkin, N.C. and Greensboro City Schools. He then relocated to Mannheim, Germany where he taught in the Department of Defense School for several years. In 1963, after returning to Greensboro, he again taught and served as Assistant Principle in the Greensboro school system. Hub enrolled at UNC-G attending summer classes to earn his Master's Degree. He first became Principal of Porter Elementary School and then Peck Elementary School where he served as Principal until his retirement in 1982. While living in Statesville, he was active in the Jaycees and Lion's Club and in Greensboro the Civitan Club. Among the many things Hub really enjoyed was camping, fishing, and watching any sporting event either in person or on TV. After his retirement, Hub returned to Banner Elk, N.C., purchased a home and lived among his many friends until returning to Statesville in 2014. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation beginning at 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Friday, January 2, 2015 at Nicholson Funeral Home with his funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ray Benfield officiating. A private family burial will be held Friday morning in the Morrow family plot in Oakwood Cemetery.
