Howard Coffey

Mr. Howard Coffey, 84, of Statesville, died Sunday, November, 15, 2015 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Avery County on June 7, 1931, he was a son of the late Daniel Coffey and Jodie Coffey Coffey. He attended New Bethany Baptist Church and enjoyed playing bluegrass music, having played in several bands. He retired from Blanton & Moore in Troutman. He was preceded in death by brothers : Lloyd, Coleman, Orville and Lewis and sisters: Dorothy and Alma. On November 17, 1953, he married the former Mary Ruth Ollis who survives. Also surviving are sons: Tony Coffey (Betsy) and Mike Coffey (Paula). Additional survivors include a brother, Herman Coffey and sisters: Margie and Irene, along with grandchildren: April and Anthony Pittman, Joshua and Karen Coffey, Amy and Jon Burriss, Brooks and Walter Meyer, Allyson and Donald Taylor, Angie and Jason Brady, Landon Boyd and Justin Coffey. Also surviving are great grandchildren: Christopher, Connor, Claire, Sawyer, Shelby, Dylan, Jaxson, Brody, Madison, Lydia, Sam and Suri. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. today (Tuesday) November 17, 2015 at New Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Mason officiating. He will lie in state in the church sanctuary while the family receives friends in the church fellowship hall for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
