Houston Jackson Cashion

June 28, 1939 — February 29, 2016

Houston Jackson Cashion, 76, of Cleveland, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Iredell County on June 28, 1939 to the late Paul Melvin and Hattie Lucille Horton Cashion. Mr. Cashion was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force. He was married to Peggy Hodge Cashion on July 7, 1962, who survives. They enjoyed almost 54 years of marriage before his passing. He was retired from Grinnell Fire Protection of Cleveland having worked over 30 years as a machine operator and was a member of Cleveland Baptist Church. Houston enjoyed reading books, watching western movies, spending time with his grandchildren, sitting on the porch and swinging, and telling stories. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Peggy, of the home; a daughter, Myra C. Moore (Zachary) of China Grove; a grandson, Cody Bryant Moore; a granddaughter, Zoey Beth Moore; a brother, Joe Pearson Cashion of Lexington; and a sister, Laura Stevenson Cashion of Kannapolis. He is further survived by four sister-in-laws, Irene H. Miller (Richard Cooley) of Mooresville, Ruth H. Mullis (Graham) of Troutman, Sue H. Overman (Dwight) of Salisbury, and Connie H. Fero (Bob) of Cleveland; two brother-in-laws, Ira Hodge of Cleveland and Charles D. Hodge (Darvia) of Salisbury; a number of nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Cashion will be held 11:00 AM Friday, March 4, 2016 at Cleveland Baptist Church with Rev. Kestler Ruth and Rev. Jerome Cloninger officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in the Salisbury National Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Doug Miller, Robbie Fero, Brian Fero, Richard Overman, Justin Hodge, Matthew Cashion, Hunter Norman, and Junior Hodge. Memorials in memory of Mr. Cashion may be made to Cleveland Baptist Church, P.O. box 325, Cleveland, NC 27013 or to Grace Lutheran Church, 3020 Grace Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28147.
