Horace Paul Hutchinson

Horace Paul Hutchinson, 95, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017, at Maple Leaf Healthcare. Mr. Hutchinson was born in Camp Springs, MD on November 26, 1921, and was the son of the late Horace Eli Hutchinson and Blanch Sellner Hutchinson. He was a graduate of Surrattsville High School and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. On June 20, 1984, he married Diana Carol Proctor Hutchinson, who survives. Mr. Hutchinson was disability retired from the Dept. of Weights and Measures where he worked as an inspector. He was a man who loved music. He would hold jam sessions in their garage that was playfully known as "Lil Ole Opry". He played in several bands; Pure Gold Band and The Alibis, both which played country music, and The Pure Gold Band which played big band in Sarasota, FL. He was the founder of the Jazz Club of Prescott in Prescott, AZ. He appeared in a movie titled "Junior Bonner" with his band in a fight scene at the Palace Saloon. The movie starred Steve McQueen, Robert Preston, and Ida Lupino. He was also Past Master of the Hope Masonic Lodge #20 and William R. Singleton Masonic Lodge #7 in Washington, DC. In addition to his wife of 35 years, Carol Hutchinson, he is survived by three sons, Gilbert Hutchinson (Beverly) of Malta, OH, Ronnie Hutchinson of Lenoir, NC and John Hutchinson (Carol) of MD along with two daughters, Renee Hoey (Steve) of PA and Marlene Carlson of FL. He is also survived by a brother, George Hutchinson of Cape Canaveral, FL A memorial service honoring the life of Paul Hutchinson will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 26, 2017, in the Nicholson Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. J.B. Parker, Jr officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in the Salisbury National Cemetery. The family will visit for one hour prior to the funeral hour at the funeral home.
