Herbert Lunsford

Mr. Herbert Hoover Lunsford, 81, of Union Grove, passed away Sunday night, March 11, 2012 at Iredell Memorial Hospital with his wife and children gathered around him. Mr. Lunsford was born November 9, 1930 in Union Grove, NC and was the son of the late Isaac Lunsford and Ellie Jarvis Lunsford. He attended Union Grove schools and for 55 years was married to Evelyn Hamm Lunsford. He was a member of Grassy Knob Baptist Church, worked 27 years for Gilbert Cement Company, Hamby Brothers Cement Company and retired in 1994 as a Truck Driver for the State of North Carolina. In addition to his wife, Mr. Lunsford is survived by four children, Kent Lunsford of Union Grove, Rita Speaks (Kenneth) of N. Wilkesboro, Jolene Sebastian (John) of Union Grove, Lisa Lenderman (Todd) of N. Wilkesboro; seven grandchildren, Isaac and Eric Lunsford, Glenn Speaks, Leandra and Grant Lenderman, Ashley and Dawn Sebastian; and four sisters, Clara Templeton of Union Grove, Lora Rupard of Statesville, Nora Stepp of Greensboro and Elmere Heintz of Statesville. Mr. Lunsford was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Colonel Lunsford and three sistes, Rose Procter, Hessie Howard and Gertha Foster. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Grassy Knob Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Miles and Rev. Allen Lunsford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Isaac Lunsford, Eric Lunsford, Glenn Speaks, Grant Lenderman, Harian Templeton, Mark Rupard, Dwight Hamm and Chub Hamm.
