Herbert Elmo Roberts

Herbert Elmo Roberts, 89, of Statesville, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Gordon Hospice House. He was born in Alabama on May 17, 1926 to the late Theophilis Garrett and Cora Lena Beasley Roberts. Mr. Roberts was educated in Alabama and served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On February 12, 1946, he married Anne Chapman Roberts, who survives. They had over 69 years of marriage before his passing. He was retired from J.C. Steel and Sons after over 25 years of service as a draftsman. He was a member of Calvary Community Church and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will missed by all that knew him. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Anne; a son, Herbert E. Roberts Jr. (Patti); a daughter, Barbara R. Wood (Banks); four grandchildren, Father Benjamin Roberts, Erin Roberts, Banks Wood Jr., and Anne Wood; two brothers, Maurice and Melvin Roberts; and two sisters, Ila Rogers and Wanda Cody. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 1, 2015 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Horton officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends prior to service from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Community Church, 334 N.
