Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Teeter Black, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 at Autumn Care. She was born Dec. 22, 1920 in Lenoir, NC and was the daughter of the late McKee Chriswell Teeter and Luna Lee Odom Teeter. She was a graduate of Hickory High School and attended the Hickory Beauty School. On Sept. 22, 1939 she was married to Sidney Arthur (S.A.) Black, Jr., who died Oct. 18, 1999. Mrs. Black was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church where she was very active in church activities. She was a Sunday School Teacher, Food Fellowship committee person, a member of the United Methodist Women, Christian Forum Class and the Disciple Bible Study Class. Mrs. Black was a girl scout leader and a member of the Turf and Garden Club. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Mac Teeter of Hickory, one sister, Martha Teeter Roever of Charlotte, five brother-in-laws, Rev. Eldon Roever of Lexington, Ervin Fulbright of Hickory, "Skinney" Carpenter of Elkin, Ralph Black of Hickory, Joe Dyer of Lenoir, three sister-in-laws, Edith Black Carpenter of Elkin, Rachel Russell Black of Hickory, Ruby Black Dyer of Lenoir and two nephews, John Black of Hickory and Joey Dyer of Lenoir. Mrs. Black is survived by three daughters, Gail Black Pope (David) of Statesville, Diane Black Guilford (Bonner) of Troutman, Cindy Black Cronce (Roy) of Statesville; five grandchildren, Dan Pope (Connie) of Statesville, Gretchen Pope Payne (Clayton) of Charlotte, Mary Pope Bandy (Darren) of Clemmons, Brad Cronce of Statesville, Kyle Cronce of Statesville; eight great grandchildren, Issac Pope, Zachary Pope, Lily May Pope, Suzanna Payne, Sydney Payne, Marshall Payne, Owen Bandy, Oliver Bandy, a half sister, Becky Moretz Fulbright (Ervin) of Hickory, a sister-in-law, Mary Frans Teeter (Mac) of Hickory and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011 at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael J. Gehring and Rev. Jennifer Bingham officiating. The family will visit with friends in the church memorial hall following the service. Burial will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. in Oakwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dan Pope, Brad Cronce, Kyle Cronce, Clayton Payne, Larry Nichols and Roger Bejcek. The family will assemble at the home of Gail and David Pope, 433 Sullivan Rd., Statesville and the home of Cindy and Roy Cronce, 154 Robinhood Loop, Statesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broad Street United Methodist Church, PO Box 169, Statesville, NC 28687 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N.
