Harold Ervin Smith, 67, of Statesville, died Sunday, November 27, 2016, at the Gordon Hospice House. Mr. Smith was born in Mecklenburg County on March 28, 1949, and was the son of the late Harold I. Smith and Mazelle Thomas Smith. On September 17, 1969, he married Patricia "Patsy" Green Smith, who survives. He was retired from Clark Equipment/Dana Corp where he worked in management for 28 years. Mr. Smith was a member of Jones Spring UMC. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan. In addition to his wife of 47 years, Patsy, he is survived by two sons, Tony Smith (Crystal) and Tim Smith, three grandsons, Anthony, Matt, and Layne Smith along with one brother, Rick Smith (Jean), a sister, Kelly Bost (Jim). He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Phyllis Green, a special uncle and aunt, Larry & Cathy Thomas and special cousins, Tommy and Darlene Cash along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services for Harold Smith will be conducted at 4:00 pm Wednesday, November 30, 2016, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial with full military honors will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, December 1, 2016, in the Jones Spring UMC Cemetery in Derby, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625, or to Jones Spring UMC, c\o Anne Lomax, 816 Jackson Springs Road, Derby, NC 28345.
