Harding Ray Austin

May 20, 1944 — August 17, 2018

Harding Ray Austin, 74, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 17, 2018 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born on May 20, 1944 in Iredell County to the late Ray and Ruby Lackey Austin.

Harding was a graduate of Scotts High School and on July 31, 1965 he married Linda Goodwin, who survives. He was co-owner of Austin and Austin Builders before his retirement. Harding was a member of the Iredell Coon Club and the Blueberry Hunting Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, target shoot and tend to his garden. His most prized time was spent with his grandkids. Harding taught both of them how to shoot a gun and he passed his love of the outdoors on to both of his grandkids. They were his pride and joy. He will be truly missed but his memory will be with us forever.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda; one daughter, Sandy Harpe (Eddy); one grandson, Matt Harpe; one granddaughter, Lindsey Harpe; three brothers, Tommy Austin (Cindy), Gary Austin (Elaine), and Larry Austin; one sister, Sheila A. Mitchell, several nieces and nephews, and his hunting dogs.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Gryder and Pastor David Martin officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Online condolences may be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com and Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family.
