Alma Gwendolyn Alexander Bridges, 88, of Cleveland, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at Maple Leaf Health Care. She was born in Iredell County on January 7, 1928 to the late Robert L. and Iona Bridges Alexander. Gwen attended Statesville High School and was previously married to George Edwin Muse Sr. who preceded her in death. She later married Franklin Melvin Bridges who also preceded her death. Gwen was a retired Training Supervisor at Beauty Maid Mills with over 40 years of service. After retirement, she started a second career at Iredell Memorial Hospital Pink Tea Room and Community Grocery in Cleveland. She was a charter member of Monticello Baptist and later joined Elmwood Baptist Church. She loved children, enjoyed gardening, volunteering to help people, and loved animals, especially dogs. She enjoyed traveling with Mr. Bridges to Model T shows. Along with her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mary A. Moose, Joyce A. Wooten, and Vivian Alexander. Left to cherish her memory are a son, Dr. George E. Muse Jr. (Dianne Stone Muse) of Statesville; two grandsons, Dr. Kevin Muse (Dr. Vida Muse) of Bayside, WI and Keith Muse (Carianne Muse) of Marietta, GA; two great granddaughters, Avery and Ella Muse; a great grandson, Wyatt Muse; a brother, Robert Alexander of San Diego, CA and a sister, Jean A. Harding of Locust, NC. Funeral services for Mrs. Bridges will be held 2:00 Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wes Muntz officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 at the funeral home.
