Gregory Scott Burris, 53, of Statesville, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Asheville on September 15, 1965 to the late Peggy Chapman Burris and Jack Burris, who survives.
Gregory was a graduate of Mooresville High School and worked in the family business, Jack's Concrete Company, before becoming disabled. His friends know of his outstanding qualities. He was stubborn and set in his ways but also very compassionate and loving. Though limited in resources, he supported St. Judes Children's Hospital and the American Diabetes Association.
The family wishes to thank Wake Forest Baptist Hospital Transplant Unit for helping Gregory to have a good quality of life for the last several years. The miracle of a kidney and pancreas transplant freed him of diabetes, which he had acquired at the age of 11.
Preceding Gregory in death was his wife, Hope; his Mom, Peggy Chapman Burris; and two brothers, Jeffrey William and Michael Lee Burris.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his father, Jack Burris (Gerri); a brother, James Burris (Brenda) along with a large extended family.
A visitation will be held Sunday evening, October 28, 2018 from 6:00 until 7:30 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home. A private family burial will be held at a late date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital or to the American Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com and Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family.
