Grady Wilson Shives

October 17, 1936 — February 17, 2018

Mr. Grady Wilson Shives, 81, of Statesville, died Saturday, February 17, 2018 at his home. Born in Iredell County on October 17, 1936, he was a son of the late Horace Anderson Shives and Blanche Bass Shives. On September 7, 1977 he married the former Arlene Mitcham who died on November 24, 2016. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Homer and Jim Shives and a daughter-in-law, Tanna Chapman Shives.



Mr. Shives was self employed and owner/operator of Grady W. Shives Trucking Company retiring in 1996. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1954 until 1957. He graduated from Troutman High School and Statesville Business College.



Survivors include his children from a previous marriage, including a son, Wayne Shives (Ann), and two daughters, Pam Fox- Heaton (Sam) and Lisa Shives. Also surviving are brothers, Marvin and Freddie Shives (Lida) and grandchildren: Kamie Pitts (Chris), Miranda Shives, Brandon Shives, and great grandchildren: Preston Shives, Kaitlyn Pitts, Mary-Catherine Pitts and Raeghan Jane Shives.



Graveside services will be held at 2 :00 P.M. on Thursday at Union Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at Nicholson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
