Grady Sloan Pharr, Jr

Grady Sloan Pharr Jr. 87, of Statesville, NC passed away Monday, December 7th at The Gordon Hospice House of Statesville. Grady was born in Statesville on January 4, 1929. He was the son of the late Grady Sloan Pharr Sr. and Eva Johnson Pharr. He was a graduate of Central High School. He worked for Hoechst Celanese and retired from there after 23 years. He was a member of Front Street Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school, belonged to the Young at Heart and sang in the senior adult choir before his health declined. He enjoyed woodwork, gardening, and camping with friends and family. He belonged to the Good Sam RV organization and was a former member of the local Good Sam chapter, the Good Sam Country Cruisers. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was preceded in death by his wife Anne King Pharr of 66 years. He is survived by his brother Roy Pharr(Dot) of Statesville, and sister Wilma Haynes of Harmony; son, Daniel Pharr(Lillian), of New York City; one daughter, Martha Levan(Johnny), of Statesville; three grandchildren: Cara Pharr Gottheim(Ben), of Centreville, VA; Devin Pharr (Jessica), of Fultonville, NY; and Kaitlyn Levan of Greenville, SC. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-n-law Carrie Burchardt-Pharr and sisters Edna Jolly, Jessie McLelland, Hazel Hartness, and Lilli Bess Haynes. The services with Reverends Tim Stutts and Jeff Luxon will be held on Saturday, December 19th at 2:00 p.m. at Front Street Baptist Church, 1403 East Front Street, Statesville, NC, 28677. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow at the Snow Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews Adam Merritt, Bobby King, Tommy King, Richard King, Gene Benfield, and Shelton King. Memorials may be made to the Snow Creek Cemetery Fund, PO Box 7, Statesville, NC 28687. The family would like to extend a special thank you to special friend and physician Dr. Raj Joshi, the staff at the Gordon Hospice House and the staff at Autumn Care for the care of their father.
