Gordon Leonard West, Sr., 86, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Georgetown, Mass. on October 2, 1929 to the late Ralph Waldo West and Edna Seaver West. Mr. West was a graduate of Perley High School in Georgetown, Mass. and was married to Virginia Milton Russell West on September 16, 1951. They shared almost 65 years of marriage before his passing. He had worked as an Aerospace Engineer for Martin Marietta which is now Lockheed Martin for over 30 years and was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. Mr. West was a great lover of country music and had a passion for training horses. He was known to be able to "cut a rug" on the dance floor with his wife, Virginia. While living in Colorado, Mr. West volunteered for many years for Habitat for Humanity and was very active in the AARP. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Doug West; 8 brothers, and 8 sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Virginia; a son, Gordon L. West, Jr. (Debbie) of California; two daughters, Gini West of Colorado and Laurie West of New Mexico; two grandsons, Jeremy West and Kellen West; two granddaughters, Melonie Lombardi (Mike) and Courtney Murretta (Frank), and six great grandchildren. There will be a Memorial Service for Mr. West held in Colorado at a later date.
