Gloria Ann Stephens Mattox Yost, 76 of Statesville, passed away August 21, 2013 following a lengthy illness. She was born November 21, 1936 in Stearns, KY. She is the daughter of the late Delmer Stephens and Ruby Collins Stephens. She resided in Bluefield, WV for more than 40 years. She was employed by McGraw-Edison company 26 years and Tazewell Industries for 12 years. After moving to Statesville she was employed by Crossroads Home for 6 years and Davis Oil Company for 7 years. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Lee Yost, one son Danny Robert Mattox, daughter Pamela Mattox Carter and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Brooke Carter. She is also survived by two sisters; Joy Dean (Jerry) Tolley and Judith Elaine Pace of Cullman, AL. Her step-mother Shirley Stephens, half sisters; Patsy, Cindy, Brenda (Terry) Mise, Lynn (James) Matuska, half brothers; John (Michelle) Stephens of Gainsville, GA, Dennis (Jenny) Stephens of Fayetteville, NC, stepdaughter Dana (Ron) Cook, stepsons Glenn Yost (Jenna) and Mike Yost (Deborah), four grandchildren Jennifer, Amber, Kelly, John and one great grandson Levi Williams. Mrs. Yost was a former member of Memorial Baptist Church, Bluefield, VA where she served as Financial Secretary and Church Clerk. She was a member of Martha Lytle Circle, Couples Sunday School Class and served on the Kitchen Committee. She was a member of Chapter 102, Order of the Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Order of the Moose. She has been a member of Command Baptist Church since moving to Statesville in 1995 and belonged to the Senior Sunday School Class. She truly loved her church and it's members. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Nicholson Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 11:00 am Monday, August 26, 2013 at Command Baptist Church, Statesville, NC with Pastor Tony Fox officiating. Internment will follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Command Baptist Church, 658 Island Ford Road, Statesville, NC 28625 and Hospice and Palliative Care, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28677. Active Pall Bearers will be: Perry Jenkins, Jody Cook, Jerry Houston, Andy Cook, Dale Napier and Ronnie Cranford. The family would like to thank Hospice for the care they gave and a special thanks to Megan, Donna, Anna and Sharon who loved, respected and tenderly cared for her.
