Glenna Smith Joyner, 84, of Harmony, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born on December 11, 1929 in Iredell County to the late George and Esma Renegar Smith. Mrs. Joyner was a graduate of Harmony High School Class of 1948 where she served as Valedictorian of her class. She remained close to all her classmates. On March 6, 1949, she married Clay Elisha Joyner who preceded her in death on December 1, 2005. They had over 56 years of marriage before his passing. She was a homemaker and worked on the family farm. She enjoyed traveling; especially the mountains where she could witness the leaves in the fall. She was a member of Rock Spring Baptist Church and served as the piano player for many years until her health declined. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, William Keith Krider in 2012 and a brother, Robert "Bob" Lee Smith. Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Sharon Joyner Krider, of the home; a sister, Bonnie S. Laws of Harmony; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Smith of Harmony; a brother-in-law, Jack Moore of Yadkinville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Joyner will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Rock Spring Baptist Church with Revs. Billy Manners, Steve Hedgecock, and Jesse Stroud officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Lynn Laws, David York, Tommy and Dean Joyner, Kent, John, and Keith Moore. Benjamin York will serve as honorary pallbearer. The family will visit with friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00PM. There will be special seating for the Harmony High School Class of 1948. Memorials may be made to the Gideons, P.O. Box 148, Statesville, NC 28687 or the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
