Gilbert Stroud

Mr. Gilbert Douglas Stroud, 90, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, August 03, 2014, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Stroud was born in Iredell County on October 11, 1923, and was the son of the late Henry Wesley and Laura Marlowe Stroud. He attended Iredell County schools and on February 16, 1951, he married Betty Jean Wooten Stroud, who preceded him in death on March 26, 2013. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during WWII. Mr. Stroud was a retired Header Department foreman with Southern Screw and a member of Mountain Road Baptist Church where he was considered by some as the church comedian. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Stroud was preceded in death by six sisters, Beulah Arledge, Flossie Galliher, Verlie Richardson, Ruth Jones, Grace Lagle, and Julia York along with four brothers, Stamey, Roy, Wade, and Garl Stroud. Mr. Stroud is survived by two sons, Doug Stroud (Debbie) of Hickory and John Stroud (Melanie) of Statesville, two grandsons, Paul Stroud (Kandey) of Granite Falls and Aaron Stroud of Maiden along with two granddaughters, Angela S. Hubbard of Granite Falls and Amanda Stroud of Statesville. He is further survived by great-grandchildren, Morgan and Mason Hubbard and Kyra and Katie Stroud and a sister, Bernice Williams and sister-in-law, Faye Loyd along with a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Stroud will be conducted at 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Mountain Road Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Fox and Rev. Aaron Stroud officiating. The family will visit with friends from 12:30 until 2:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family requests memorials be made to the Purple Heart Homes, 1551 Salisbury Rd, Statesville, NC 28677 or to Mountain Road Baptist Church, 132 Compton Park Rd; Statesville, North Carolina 28677.
