German Rodriguez, Jr.

September 2, 1954 — March 4, 2025

Statesville

German Rodriguez, Jr., born on September 2, 1954, in the vibrant streets of the Bronx, NY, has decided to take his talents to the great beyond as of March 4, 2025, at the age of 70. He left this world from Statesville, NC, presumably because he heard there were better fishing spots on the other side.

German's journey began in the bustling Bronx, where he first developed his love for salsa music and the New York Yankees. His life was a series of home runs, starting with his service in the U.S. Army as a Personnel System Management specialist. After hanging up his uniform, he continued to serve veterans at the Salisbury VA Medical Center in North Carolina, where he was known to brighten up any room—sometimes with stories, sometimes with salsa moves.

An avid fisherman, German could often be found by the water, pondering life's mysteries or just waiting for the next big catch. His passion for boxing, especially his admiration for Roberto Duran, kept him on the edge of his seat, while his loyalty to the Yankees and the New York Giants was unwavering, even when they tested his patience.

A man of faith, German was a devoted member of the Catholic community. Whether he was spending time with his beloved family or watching movies, German knew how to enjoy the simple pleasures. His love of cooking ribs and steaks on the grill and how much he loved his extended family, he loved to make everyone smile and laugh, and how he would offer words of encouragement in his own special way.

German is preceded in his heavenly journey by his parents, German Rodriguez, Sr. and Frances Araujo Rodriguez, his son Jermaine Rodriguez, and his brother Raymond Rodriguez. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Cynthia Rodriguez, who undoubtedly holds the title of MVP in his heart, his son German Rodriguez, III (Chavalia), two daughters, Tiffany and Natasha Rodriguez and his two sister, Audrey and Sonia Rodriguez. His legacy continues through his ten grandchildren: Messiah, Brianna, James, Keir, Treyson, Brelynn, Kol, Corey, Karai, and Brooklynn, all of whom will carry forward his zest for life and perhaps his knack for catching the biggest fish. He had a love foe his 15 nieces and nephews whom which he cared deeply for and would do anything to help when there in a bind.

Join us in celebrating German's life at a graveside service, which will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you play some salsa music, cheer for the Giants, or simply enjoy a good movie with a cold beer and a good steak.
