George Talmadge Kimberlin

August 5, 1929 — August 11, 2017

George Talmadge Kimberlin, 88, of Sherrills Ford, NC, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, August 11, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born on August 5, 1929 in Todd, NC to the late James W. and Laura Grogan Kimberlin. Mr. Kimberlin was a graduate of Fleetwood High School in Jefferson, NC in 1948 and served his country honorably in the Navy during the Korean War. He was married to Margie Gray Kimberlin, who preceded him in death on September 5, 2010. George received a teacher certificate from NC State University and was a graduate of the Institution of Government in Chapel Hill. He taught Fire Science for 20 years at Catawba Valley Community College and at Mitchell College. George was a career fireman and served as the Training Officer for the Statesville Fire Department for many years. He also served as the interim Fire Chief before retiring in 1985. George was a man of few words and quiet spirit, but listened intently to each conversation with concern and interest. He enjoyed living at the lake where he moved after retirement. His passions were gardening, fishing, western movies, and being outdoors. George was a member of Olivet Baptist Church in Sherrills Ford and served as a former deacon, part of the choir, and on the Long Range Planning and Growth Committee. Along with his parents and wife, Margie, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Delane K. Lovelace (Steve) of Charlotte, NC and Jill K. Liverman (Walt) of Kill Devil Hills, NC; one son, Randy Kimberlin (Dawnn) of Statesville; seven grandchildren, Jon Lovelace, Candy K. Combs (William), Kim Lovelace, Micah Kimberlin (Katie), Matt Liverman, Kristen Liverman, and Jake Liverman; and four great grandchildren, Tyson, Lauren, and Cade Combs, and Hudson Kimberlin. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, August 14, 2017 at Olivet Baptist Church in Catawba, NC with Rev. Matt Rummage and Rev. James Childress officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday evening, August 13, 2017 at Nicholson Funeral Home from 6:30 until 8:30 pm.
