Mr. George Nolan Amox, Sr., 75, of Statesville, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2016 at the Gordon Hospice House with his family by his side. He was born July 11, 1941 in Savannah, Georgia and was a beloved son of the late Bryant Cornelius Amox, who died serving our country in World War II after completing the Bataan Death March and his mother, the late Bernice Brown Honeycutt, who after the war married Loren T. Honeycutt, Sr., who was Bryant's best friend and also was in the Bataan Death March with Bryant. Making a promise to George's father, Loren helped raise George and became the Father that George loved and respected. Being raised in a military family and knowing the sacrifices of his fathers, George was dedicated to serving his country. He joined the Army in 1967, serving 2 tours in Viet Nam in 1968 and 1969. George met the love of his life, Peggy Ann Kuykendall in Statesville and was sealed to his sweetheart for all time and eternity on October 11, 1969 in the Switzerland LDS Temple. George loved and adored his wife, Peggy and took care of her until her death on April 15, 2015. He is survived by two daughters, Celia Amox Lujan and Cindy Amox and his son named after him, George Nolan Amox, Jr. He has 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. George also has 2 brothers and 3 sisters, all of whom love and will miss his laugh, his fun sense of humor and especially his stories he would tell. George loved his family and cherished every minute he had with them. The love of his country will continue on. He took every opportunity to wave our country's flag. Most people will remember him as (Flag Man) as he stood on street corners waving the flag. We will always love and remember him, his tender and loving heart for his family and everyone around him. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the National Cemetery at Salisbury with Bishop Rupp officiating. Full Military Rites will be presented. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at Nicholson Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Condolences may be sent online to the family to www.nicholsonfunerals.com. Memorials may be given to the Gordon Hospice House, C/O Hospice & Palliative Care Of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, N.C. 28625. Nicholson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
