George Edward Saleem

George Edward Saleem of, Statesville, NC, passed away peacefully Wednesday January 10th. Born in Wilmington, NC to Charlie and Sallie Saleem, George was always the consummate gentleman, charming and befriending everyone he met. After fighting for his country in World War II, George attended both Wake Forest University and Lees McCrae College, then spent 35 years with the Federal Aviation Administration. A cheerleader in college, a diver, a swimmer, a dancer, and an accomplished golfer, George was always cheerful and full of life. He continued to be an active golfer, playing until age 92. When his wife Reba became ill, he faithfully stood by her side throughout her long illness until her death in 2008. George is survived by his son Ed and his wife, Audrey of Maggie Valley, NC. A Memorial service will be held at the Haywood House in Canton, NC, on Monday, January 22 at 2PM. A celebration of his life will be held at Nicholson Funeral Home in Statesville, NC on Saturday, January 27th at 2PM. A final celebration of the lives of Reba and George Saleem will be planned for the Spring in Wilmington, NC.
