Gearldyne Burnette

March 23, 1920 — May 24, 2018

Mrs. Gearldyne Morrow Burnette, 98, of Statesville, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus at Gordon Hospice House on Thursday, May 24, 2018. Mrs. Burnette was born in Iredell County, March 23, 1920 and was the daughter of the late Tipton Pressley Morrow and Martha (Mattie) Nash Morrow. She was a graduate of Celeste Henkel School. After graduation, she moved to Kannapolis, NC and began her career at Cannon Mills which lasted forty plus years and was where she meet her late husband, Johnnie Burnette, who preceded her in death on April 11, 1979. In 1981 she moved back to Statesville and was an active member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir and United Methodist Women. Mrs. Burnette also volunteered many years as a Pink Lady at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Through her 98 years, she loved on everyone she came in contact with, especially her family and church family.



In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven sisters: Hattie Roseman, Ezzie Ostwalt, Alta Little, Voda Ostwalt, May Loftin, Pearl Rayle, and Thelma Bridges and four brothers: Floyd Morrow, Gordon Morrow, Jay Morrow and Eckles Morrow. She is survived by one sister, Nelle Bordon of Melbourne, FL. Also left to cherish wonderful memories with "Aunt Gearldyne" are many well-loved nephews and nieces, including nephew, Jimmy Bridges; niece, Terrie Ross and husband Marshall; great-niece Stacey Helmandollar and husband Jerry; great-great nephew and niece, Joshua and Emma Helmandollar, who affectionately called her "Aunt G-gene".



Funeral services for Mrs. Burnette will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 3:30pm at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Rev. Jody Seymour, Rev. Olin Isenhour and Rev. Jerry Helmandollar presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 27, 2018 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in the CLC building prior to the service. Pallbearers for the service will be Jimmy Bridges, Marshall Ross, Joshua Helmandollar, Ronald Rayle, Philip Herrin, Brad Smalt, and Ernie Pope. For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church or Gordon Hospice House. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Gearldyne Morrow Burnette.
