Frederick Jackson Devone passed peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Hunter Village Assisted Living, Huntersville, NC. He was born on October 8, 1932 in Currie, North Carolina to the late Reverend Willie W. Devone and Ethel (Pridgen) Devone. Frederick graduated from the Pender County Training School of Rocky Point, North Carolina and then enlisted in the Army. After his Honorable Discharge, he worked at the VA Hospital in Boston, MA. Later, he relocated to New York where he worked as a bus driver and a barber. Next, Frederick decided to continue his education, graduated, and was employed with Corp Engineers in New York City as a Computer Programmer. Later in life, he became a "jack of all trades". In 2007 after his retirement, Frederick moved to Charlotte, NC. One of his favorite past-times was riding around and checking out all the different areas in the Charlotte and the nearby communities. Frederick was married to the late Mary Alice Higgins on June 24, 1961 in Corona, NY. To this union was born five children - Sheri, Tracy, Randal, Eric and Bryan. Frederick was preceded in death by his wife Mary Alice Devone in 2006, and his siblings Flora Lee Graham, Herbert Lee Devone, William H. Devone, Christine Jones, James Edward Devone, Callie Jeanette Smith, Ethel Marietta Mack and Kenneth Ronald Devone. Frederick was the third of eleven siblings. He is survived by his children: daughters Sheri Devone of Charlotte, NC and Tracy Devone of Woodstock, GA; sons Randal "Randy" (Sabrina) Devone of Richmond, Texas, Eric Devone and Bryan (Nadjy) Devone of Douglasville, GA; grandsons Terrance Devone, Terrell Devone, Keith Josey, Reece Devone, Justice Devone and Josiah Devone; granddaughters Jasmine Josey and Sydney Devone; two great-grandchildren; an older brother Oliver "Buddy" Devone of Hyde Park, MA, baby sister Eula (Edward) Armstrong of Conyers, GA, Brother-in-Law Whittaker Mack, Jr. of Summerville, SC, Sister-in-Law Doris Sanders of Greenwood, SC, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, the caring neighbors of Mallard Crossing Drive, and a host of loving friends. Thanks to the caregivers and staff of Hunter Village Assisted Living, WG Hefner VA Medical Center, Home Care Freedom and Gentle Shepherd Care. The funeral service will be Friday, February 25 at 9:00 AM at Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. After the service, the family will gather at the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store restaurant at 1070 Freeland Dr, Salisbury.
