Fred Evans

Mr. Fred Dalton Evans, 84, of Statesville, died Friday, January 30, 2015 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born on March 19, 1930 in Iredell County, he was a son of the late William Alfred Evans and Mamie Safriet Evans. He was married to the Peggy Wooten on June 24, 1951 who passed away in 2014. Mr. Evans graduated from Harmony School and was a retired Maintenance Supervisor at J C Penny Distribution Center. He was a Deacon at Society Baptist Church. He was very talented and artistic in woodworking, metal working,, landscape gardening, helping his friends, neighbors and family with farms and building projects and playing with an d training his dog, Fluffy. Survivors include five daughters: Jean Cleary (Roger), Kay Wright (Walter), Linda Anderson(Charles), Joy Martin(David), and Lorraine Lambert (David), all of Statesville. Also surviving are eight grandsons: Kevin Anderson (Hollie), Chad Anderson, Gary Johnson (Ashlie), Danny Johnson (Nan), Roger Cleary, Jr. (Amanda), Michael Martin, Levi Lambert and Evan Lambert, two granddaughters: Pamela Martin and Kelli Lambert Melton (Daniel) and seven great grandchildren: Nicole Martin, Caitlin Anderson, Hayden and Jaylen Cleary, Bryson Anderson, Elaina and Elijah Johnson. Additional survivors include three sisters: Ruth Fox, Helen Murdock and Nancy Langdale and a brother, Herman Evans (Barbara). Services celebrating Mr. Evans' life will be conducted at 11:00 Monday at Society Baptist Church with Dr. John Nantz, close friend and Sunday School Teacher, Rev. Jeff Holder and Rev. David Childress officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Sunday at Nicholson Funeral Home.
