Mr. Frank Edward Metz, Sr., 70, of Statesville, died Friday evening, June 3,2016 at his home. Born in Joplin, Mo. On November 24, 1945 , he was a son of the late Chesa L. Kinslow Bennett. He was also preceded in death by a son, Shannon Todd Metz and a step father, Monroe Bennett. Frank was a graduate of Joplin Senior High School. He served his country in the U. S. Air Force as a missile mechanic and worked for NASA during that time. He later worked first for Vickers of Joplin, Mo. Then for J. S. Barnes, then Dana Corp in Statesville and finally for ESC Corp. in Troutman. He was a machinist for 40 years. He loved to work on old cars, go hunting and fishing and enjoyed drag racing and NASCAR racing. He was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Norma Lee Reniker Metz, a son, Frank E. Metz, Jr., (Laura) of Lincolnton, NC, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Services celebrating Frank's life will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Johnny Caldwell, Jr. officiating. Private burial will be later. Flowers will be accepted, however, for those who prefer, memorials may be given to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
