Flora Dell Combs

Flora Dell Reid Combs, 84, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born on December 16, 1934 in Yadkin County to the late William Glenn and Vallie Bottoms Reid.



Flora attended Yadkin and Iredell County Schools and was married to Clay Junior Combs who preceded her in death in 2007. She was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church and was co-owner of Nixon Road Fabrics using her excellent seamstress skills. Flora was a CNA and provided home care for many people along with being a volunteer at Iredell Memorial Hospital for years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing, crafts, crocheting, and knitting. Flora loved her family and the mountains.



Along with her parents and husband, Clay, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Charles, and Donald Reid along with a step-son, William Combs.



Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Rhonda Southard (Scott) and Janice Sigmon; two granddaughters, Allison Southard and Jenna Sigmon; and two grandsons, Dale and Joel Hutchens.



A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at St. Mark Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Shoemaker officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday evening (Jan. 8) from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home.



The family would like to thank Dr. James Foushee and Staff, Iredell Home Health, and Hospice of Iredell County for the love and care they provided Flora.
