Fern Elizabeth Mathis Meredith, 94, of Statesville, died Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at her home.

She was born in Wilkes County on April 22, 1930, to the late Claude Mathis and Ethel Staley Mathis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herman Charles Meredith. 

Fern was a hairdresser for more than 60 years, retiring in her mid 80’s. She loved her work and loved people. She enjoyed going to the Outer Banks and playing Solitaire. One of her greatest pleasures was going shopping with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Michael Meredith, four grandchildren, Dane Meredith (Elizabeth), Chad Cooley (Chrystal), Dwight Hilton (Amy), Brandon Meredith (Rebekah), fourteen great-grandchildren, Henry Meredith, Catherine Meredith, Corbin Cooley, Caiden Bennett, Adalyn Meredith, Maci Meredith, Jacob Meredith, Micah Meredith, Arielle Solis, Dorian Mayes, Kiarra Johnson, Blake WIlliams, Raylan Childress, and Abel Solis.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Oakdale Baptist Church at 2:00 pm with Pastor Tony Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at Cranberry Baptist Church Cemetery, 1131 Wilkes Yadkin Rd., Roaring River, NC 28669. The family will visit with friends from 1-2 prior to the service at the church.
