Evelyn Irene Broome

Evelyn Irene Welborn Broome, 87, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born on June 26, 1929 in Mecklenburg County to the late James Lee Roy Welborn and Bertha Luella Lipe Welborn. Mrs. Broome was a graduate of Tech High School in Charlotte and married Eugene Ellis Broome on January 2, 1949. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage before his passing on October 5, 2013. She was a homemaker and an active member of Pressly Memorial ARP Church until her health declined. Mrs. Broome was well known for being an excellent seamstress and cook. She was a loving Christian woman who loved spending time with family and friends. Along with her parents and husband, Gene, she was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Makenzie Shaw. Left to cherish her memory are five children, Susan Garrison (Ben) of Statesville, Debbie Shaw (Kent) of Troutman, Pam Eudy (Bobby) of Statesville, Ronnie Broome (Anita) and Barbara Pope (Mark), both of Troutman; 12 grandchildren, Chris, Brian, and Wesley Shaw, Brent and Todd Garrison, Jeffrey Eudy, Megan Eudy McClain, Mallory Eudy Schellhorn, Kyle and Allison Broome, and Austin and Lauren Pope. She is further survived by 14 great grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren, and three step great great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Broome will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Pressly Memorial ARP Church with Dr. Stephen Myers officiating. Interment will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. The family will visit with friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:45 pm. Memorials may be made to Pressly ARP, P.O. The family would like to thank the staff of The Gardens of Statesville for the loving care they provided over the past few years.
