Eugene Sloan Thompson

Eugene "Gene" Sloan Thompson, 83, of Statesville passed away Friday, November 09, 2018 at the Gordon Hospice House. He was born in Iredell County on October 13, 1935 to the late Claude Franklin Thompson and Vera Bowles Thompson.



Gene was a graduate of Harmony High School and was married to Esther Lee Mealing Thompson, who survives. He was member of Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church in N. Myrtle Beach, SC. He was self-employed with Bun-Tom Advertising. Gene was past President of Mobile Meals of the North Strand in the North Myrtle Beach area. He loved fishing both lakes and oceans on his boat, "Pleasure Lee." Gene loved card games, board games, shag dancing, traveling the U.S and Europe, and entertaining people. He was happiest being with family and close friends.



Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Edna Thompson; a son, Steven Thompson; three brothers, Leonard, Harry, and John "Butch" Thompson; and one sister, Barbara Louise Thompson Transou.



Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lee; two daughters, Carole T. Myers (Allen) and Lisa T. Bryson (Jeff); one son, Ricky E. Thompson of Douglasville, GA; step-son, Christian Robert Lehew, sister, Inez Thompson Coulter; one grandson, Chris Myers (Kortney); three granddaughters, Teresa Myers, Amber Williamson (Tom), and Samantha Mattox; three great grandchildren, Addi, Tate, and Charley; and numerous nieces and nephews.



Funeral services will be held 2:30 pm Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sue Black officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 1:30 until 2:30 pm.
