Eugene "Gene" Martin Aiken

Mr. Eugene "Gene" Martin Aiken, 74, of Statesville, passed away, Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Aiken was born July 25, 1942, in Langley, SC, and was the son of the late William Marion Aiken and Dorothy Matheny Aiken. He was a graduate of Statesville Senior High School, class of 1960 and attended Catawba College and Mitchell College. On July 25, 1964, he married Beverly Sherrill Aiken and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War with the Green Beret Special Forces as a medic. His working career included Uniglass Industries and 32 years with Statesville Brick Company as a District Sales Manager until his retirement in 2006. He enjoyed his job in sales at Statesville Brick Company, playing golf and in his retirement woodworking, boating, fishing and spending time with family. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Statesville Country Club In addition to his wife, Beverly, Mr. Aiken is survived by two daughters, Amanda "Mandy" Aiken Hunter (Michael) of Cary, NC, and Natalie Aiken Larson (Ryan) of Steamboat Springs, CO; two grandchildren, Katie and Davis Hunter, one brother, William M. Aiken (Brenda) of Aiken, SC, and one sister, Ann Edmundson (Stan) of Raleigh, NC. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Michael Gehring officiating. The family will greet guests after the service and will welcome friends and family at their home. .Memorials may be made to Fifth Street Ministries, Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County and Broad Street United Methodist Church.
